Shankara’s fame – a poem by Raja Robert Numan

Shankara’s fame

In the sacred halls of ancient knowledge,
Where the masters of Shankara’s tradition preside,
There’s a whisper that grows to a rumble,
Of the raja kingdom’s misguided pride.

They’ve taken the teachings of the sages,
And twisted them for political gain,
Building a virtual kingdom of power,
At the cost of the tradition’s name.

They wear their crowns and call themselves kings,
But where in the paintings of old,
Do we see such symbols of earthly might,
In the search for the inner gold?

For true royalty lies within,
In the silence of the inner being,
The absolute source of all that is,
That the kings must be established in.

But the rajas with their virtual throne,
Have lost sight of the true goal,
Forgetting the thousand-year-old wisdom,
In their quest for power and control.

And what of the thousands of TM teachers,
Outside the raja kingdom’s gate,
Starting their own independent centers,
In the hope of keeping the tradition great?

Perhaps they are the future,
The keepers of the ancient flame,
As the rajas with their crowns,
Stray further from the Shankara name.

So heed the warning of the masters,
Of the holy tradition divine,
And don’t let the raja kingdom’s facade,
Taint the knowledge for all time.

For the true crown of the Shankara line,
Is the invisible aura of light,
Emanating from those who seek within,
And live in the inner being’s sight.
