„Our students are awake. They are dynamic” – states maharishischool.org. The mission of the Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment is “to create an innovative Consciousness-Based educational environment where students think deeply and become creative, compassionate, contributing citizens of the world”. Spanish teacher Nohema Graber gave a bad grade to the “awakened” Jeremy, so together with his accomplice, the “compassionate” Willard Miller, they beat the Mexican-born teacher to death with a baseball bat—by then, both were students at an Iowa public high school. As former (elementary school) students of the Maharishi School, they had both practiced Transcendental Meditation from a young age—having spent nine years socializing within the framework of Maharishi’s Consciousness-Based education.

Jeremy Goodale’s father, Dale Goodale: Jeremy attended the Maharishi School in Fairfield for 9 years

Jeremy Goodale attended the Maharishi School in Fairfield from kindergarten through 9th grade. His father, Dean Goodale, stated that Jeremy was a “nearly an A student” there until the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here are some additional details about Jeremy’s time at the Maharishi School:
- Jeremy may have had a few minor scuffles, but he was generally one of the “rowdy boys” in his class.
- He was friends with Jaden Miller since they were young children.
- Jeremy was not particularly attached to the Maharishi School and was not against switching to public school.
The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted Jeremy’s education and well-being
- In 2020, when Jeremy was 15, his classes were entirely online.
- Dean Goodale felt that it was pointless to pay extra for the Maharishi School when his son was just staring at a computer screen at home. This was a factor in the decision to move Jeremy to Fairfield High School.
- Jeremy’s schoolwork suffered during online learning. He was not completing his work, and instead, he played video games.
- Dean Goodale described this time as an “utter disaster” and that it created a “terrible cycle” in their relationship.
- His father stated that the pandemic and the lack of interpersonal relationships “devastated him”.
Jeremy’s father also mentioned that during his time at the Maharishi School and through the first part of his time at public school, Jeremy was involved in sports, including soccer, softball and tennis. His father said that Jeremy was a great tennis player and a leader on his high school team.
The “deep-thinking, compassionate citizens who contribute to the world” – CNN: Iowa teen sentenced to life in prison for killing his Spanish teacher
“Jeremy Goodale, one of two Iowa teenagers who pleaded guilty to the 2021 murder of their Spanish teacher, was sentenced to life in prison Wednesday. He will be eligible for parole in 25 years. Goodale’s co-defendant, Willard Miller, was sentenced in July to life in prison with the possibility of parole in 35 years. Miller is appealing the sentence, according to his case record” – writes CNN.
The Gazette: Appeals court upholds Jeremy Goodale’s life sentence in Spanish teacher killing
“The Iowa Court of Appeals has upheld the life with parole sentence for one of the Fairfield High School students who stalked and killed a Spanish teacher with a bat in 2021. The court ruled last week the trial judge didn’t abuse his discretion in sentencing 18-year-old Jeremy Everett Goodale to life with the possibility of parole after 25 years for his role in killing Nohema Graber, 66, in what the trial judge called a “brutal fashion.” – wtites The Gazette.
The Gazette report – interviewing the killers
This YouTube video details the investigation and trial surrounding the murder of Nohema Graber, a Spanish teacher. The prosecution presented evidence including incriminating Snapchats, a detailed “propep” email outlining the murder plan, and confessions from Willard Miller and Jeremy Goodale. Miller initially provided false alibis, but eventually admitted his participation, describing the murder in detail. Goodale’s Snapchats served as visual corroboration. The text concludes with statements from both defendants expressing remorse and the judge’s sentencing remarks, highlighting the devastating impact of the crime on the victim’s family and the community. The overall purpose is to recount the events leading to the conviction and provide context to the profound consequences of the crime.
